The Isle of Wight Orchid Society
About the Society

The Society was founded in the 1970’s by a small group of enthusiasts. At first we were small in number and we met at the office of one of the member’s, but we soon grew and for many years we met in The Charterouse in Newport. Following the selling off of this venue by the Isle of Wight Council, we moved to the Riverside Centre on Newport Quay. We remained at this venue until the society closed at the end of 2012, our last meeting was held in December.

For many years we put on a small dislplay of members plants at Easter, usually at Ventnor Botanic Garden, but sometimes at other venues. Photographs of these displays can be seen in the gallery. The society occasionally organised trips to the London Orchid Show and also to Orchid Nurseries, but due to the lack of members these had stopped a few years before the society closed.
